Choosing a settling place in Varna region

Small town Smiadovo (near city Shoumen)

Smiadovo is a small provincial town, 35 kilometers from Shumen - aside from big factories and car noises. According to the words of local people, 90% of inhabitant are bulgarians, and 10% - gypsies. Entrance to the town is across a railway-line, past a stadium and a small factory, that produces heating radiators. On the way from Shumen to Smiadovo, there are fruit gardens and fields, where farmers are also selling the harvest. We have bought there some very tasty and juicy cabbage, for very little price (comparative to prices in Varna).

Yards in Smyadovo are quite big - 1,5-2 thousands sqm. There are non-baked old brick houses, most of them - with one floor. The architecture is original - along the streets there are 2-3 meters high non-baked brick walls, sometimes with windows, doors and gates. Most houses have a view to the yard. Under most of the houses there is a "maza" - dry basement floor, used as workroom, warehouse, etc. The houses were built long time ago, most of them are uninhabited about 10-20 years and they need a very good repair or even demolition. But there is a possibility to find a house for living during summer, then only a cosmetic repair is necessary.

This houses are attractive with their prices, big yards, permanent electricity and water, some streets even have canalisation (which some bulgarian villages still don't have). Disadvantages are: long way to the sea - about 120 km along the highway - quite provincial town. Some specific side of the town is huge amount of gypsies. For example, on one of the town's squares, near the police station, on gypsy's house fence were picturesque hanged about hundred of socks.

The town is good for people with energy, wanted to open their own derivation or for calm pension life.

Village Vodica

Vodica is a big village, 30 kilometers from Varna and also 25-30 km from the sea. It is to the half a cottage village. In neighbourhood on the river there is a romantic reservoir. Usually there are some camps with tourists near the reservoir. There is water and electricity in the village.

Peoples are friendly and nice - when we asked, how to find the house, many people came to help.

The house, that we marked - one room, neglected enough, without sewerage - was good only as a garden house, not for living. For normal life it would be necessary to start from the begining - cleaning, new project, new permissions etc. One peculiarity - foundations of most houses are with cracks, like near is some subsoil water. Parcels in Vodica are quite big - 1-1,5 thousands sqm.

Also there is a small renew hospice.

Village Sokolnik

Sokolnik is a village situated in 5 km to the sea direction from village Stojer, which is situated on the route Varna-Dobrich. From Sokolnik to the sea direction there is a country-road. Sokolnik is a small village, there are not so many people - 30-40 inhabitants.

The Sokolnik's surroundings are plain and arable lands. From the village to the sea, to resort Albena, starts a small, in the begining, but then deep like a canyon, a ravine, surrounded by forest - nice place for walking. Near Sokolnik there is also a farm.

Village Stojer

Village Stojer is situated on the route Varna-Dobrich. It is densely populated, there are almost no uninhabited houses at all. Parcels in the village are not so big - 500-600 sqm. And almost every place is built-up. So it is quite active village.
